Virtual Edition Episode III is completed !
27th April 2003
The Virtual Episode III, derived from ideas submitted by the forumers, has been completed ! This ought to tide us over until late summer and the end of principal photography, at which point I will start to turn my attention to the OFFICIAL virtual edition based on official news and spy reports !
In this closing scene, Jedi Knight, Obi-Wan Kenobi argues with Owen and Beru Lars over the future of the infant Luke Skywalker. Obi-Wan has returned to Tatooine, but faces resistance to his plans ! Click on the image to go to the scene ...
Long-time forumer, Indy500, has speculated since the '97 Special Edition release of A New Hope that a certain cut scene might be re-incorporated as an 'epilogue' to Episode III. He hopes that elements or the entire scene of what is known as the 'Biggs Footage' will be restored.
Following the ascension of Palpatine as Emperor of his New Imperial Order, with Lord Darth Vader at his right hand, he suggests that we next see Luke, 18-20 years later, tending moisture vaporators on Tatooine. Flashes of light high above catch his adventurous eye, and he rushes to Anchorhead to let his friends know of a possible space battle. There he meets his closest buddy, Biggs Darklighter, who reveals to Luke his intention to join the rebellion. Luke is incredulous, and mocks his friend, and they part on sad terms.
Could this shot be part of the final scene ?? My thanks to T'Bone's fantastic starwarz.com site for the great wealth of imagery for these cut scenes.
Two shooting stars who will meet again very soon ...

Mealtimes in Star Wars : significant events
13th April 2003
Veteran Virtual Edition forumer and Prequel snoop, Chyren, returned from a long absence to share an interesting nugget of information :
[highlight]"there will be a last supper which will be pivotal for the couple involved". We're discussing this in this thread in the forum !
Long-time forumer, Indy500, does a good job in summarising the surprisingly many examples of mealtimes in Star Wars. Most symbolism reference books confirm that consumption of food and drink allows the Mythic Hero to not only gain much needed rest and energy, but marks a time of learning and transformation.
Indy goes on to cite such pivotal scenes as the meal in Shmi's home in Mos Espa, the snack shared between Padmé and Anakin on the Coruscant-Naboo freighter, the root leaf stew Luke shares with Yoda on Dagobah, and the tribal banquet held by the Ewoks on Endor. These are moments when the Hero learns something that will either lead to his further transformation, or drive the plot forward.
But he also describes scenes that herald a momentous change : the evening meal in Villa Varykino in the Nubian Lake Country - following a picnic in the meadow ! - leads to the declaration of love between Padmé and Anakin, as well as more of the Jedi's nightmares concerning his mother ; the energy bar that is a point of contention between Luke and Yoda leads to the revealing of the Jedi Master's identity ; the 'welcoming' dinner that is given by the Empire for Han, Leia, and Chewbacca on Cloud City ensnares our heroes ; the Ewok trap to which Chewie leads the rebels, as well as the subsequent sacrificial banquet, lead the heroes to find new allies that will define their victory.
And he reminds us of Joseph Campbell's words that The Hero must first be "consumed" before he can be reborn : in Star Wars we have such settings as the underwater creatures of Naboo, the Trade Federation battleship, the catacombs of Geonosis, the trash compactor of the Death Star, as well as the wampa, spaceslug, rancor, and sarlaac !

Joyous celebration ! The Republic is an Empire !
6th April 2003
In the forumers' virtual edition of Episode III there is great celebration thoughout the galaxy as Supreme Chancellor Palpatine declares himself 'Emperor'. He has led the galaxy through the Clone Wars, and brought peace to the populace.
Darth Vader returns to Coruscant, while the capital celebrates ! Click on the image to see a larger version ... In this scene, a shuttle brings Darth Vader's broken body back to Coruscant, where he will be fitted with an armoured life-sustaining suit.
Soon, he will bow before Palpatine, and they will rule the Galaxy with an iron rod. Darth Vader bows before his Sith Emperor ! Click on the image to go to the scene ...
Remember : any fan-made pics for Episode III are most welcome for either the Virtual Edition or for the Art Gallery here ! Email them to me via the link at the bottom of the page or post them in the forum here. If they are for the Virtual Edition of Episode III please make their format 470x200px ....

Episode III update from Insider 67 !
2nd April 2003
Both theforce.net and T'bone's Star Warz Universe recently ran reports on the nuggets of Episode III information found in the latest Star Wars magazine, Insider *67.
As of publication date, producer Rick McCallum notes that Lucas had approved 2,000 pieces of conceptual artwork, the first story outline of Episode III was delivered on ar about the 21st of february, and Hayden Christensen and Ewan McGregor will arrive four to five weeks before principal filming to begin training with Nick Gillard. Additionally, the set design team have commenced building sets, costumes are being fabricated, and animatics are increasing in number each week, as they focus on the opening 10 minutes of Episode III.
McCallum also indicates that one character from the Original Trilogy will make a cameo appearance in this final instalment. He could simply be referring to Darth Vader, and the half-expected appearance at the close of Episode III. However, other OT characters could include :
  • Tarkin
  • Mon Mothma
  • Chewbacca
  • Han
  • Lando
  • Jabba
  • Meanwhile, forumer Darth Michael has created a series of stunning pictures, culminating in this one below. I have added all of them into the VE Art Gallery, with his descriptions accessible if you hover your mouse cursor over the thumbnails ....
