Arrival at Ondos
27th August 2009
Early in Episode VII : Plague of Doom, our heroes travel to the grassy world of Ondos [Formerly 'Townowi' - for the explanation as to why this planet was renamed to 'Ondos', and its capital city changed from 'Sicemon' to 'Ton-Mumdo', please refer to the 'May 2009' editorial in the Archive on the right hand side.]
The Galactic Alliance had recently received word that not only had this Imperial border world been subjected to pressure by the Empire to recognise its authority, but that their friends, Lando Calrissian and Chewbacca the Wookiee, visiting the world as Alliance emissaries, had disappeared ! The Ondos contact, Princess Alana Seren, acting on behalf of her uncle, King Oxus, is seen in hologram to come under laserfire, and the Alliance is left to surmise that Lando and Chewie were also victims of the attack !
Anxious and concerned for his first mate and long-time friend, Han Solo volunteers to take the Falcon and investigate the mystery. His wife, Leia Organa, joins him without question, while her brother, Luke Skywalker, visibly moved by and drawn to the beautiful Alana, offers to accompany them. The Skywalker twins suggest that it might be beneficial if the droids, Artoo-Detoo and See-Threepio, journeyed with them too.
The Millennium Falcon drops out of hyperspace and zooms towards the green world of Ondos. Artwork by Nat.
This Mid-Rim planet is primarily covered in grass plains, and the populace have learned to live with the ebb and flow of its winds, harnessing the energy for their needs. Their architecture bends to the will of the weather in its shape and function, and the inhabitants are generally a peaceful and harmonious lot. The design for the city of Ton-Mumdo was inspired by Ralph McQuarrie's early concept artwork for Star Wars and Empire.

The Falcon settles upon one of the many open-air landing pads - protected from the stronger winds and gales by energy domes that can spring up at a moment's notice - under the gaze of King Oxus himself, accompanied by a small entourage. Foreboding storm clouds loom on the horizon, a portent of things to come.....
Under the gaze of King Oxus and his entourage, Captain Han Solo brings his ship in with a smooth landing. Artwork by Nat.
Han leads the group out of the Millennium Falcon to greet the King. As his wife watches the proceedings from the base of the ramp, her Jedi brother gazes about him, taking in a sense of this new world.

You can see the VE artwork in the 'Ondos' art gallery as well as in the online illustrated story, and you can discuss it in the forum here !
