Losing the 'Lost Twenty'.
29th September 2002
Count Dooku, as represented in the Library of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. The Official Star Wars site has recently confirmed the eight deleted scenes that will be presented on the forthcoming Attack of the Clones dvd. Alas, many fans hoping to see the description of the infamous 'Lost Twenty' by Jedi Library archivist, Jocasta Nu, will be sadly disappointed. An image of this scene can be found here, in theforce.net's image archive.
Much of the information regarding 'The Lost Twenty' is found in the R.A. Salvatore novelisation for Episode II, augmented by material from the shooting script in 'The Art of Episode II' and the film's 'Visual Dictionary'. It describes the fabled Jedi, only twenty in number, to have voluntarily left the Order. Since this scene was cut from the finished film, and now will not appear on the flexible dvd format, one wonders if this fascinating material will ever make it into Episode III or will remain in reference books as 'back story' ?
'The Lost Twenty' has been thoroughly discussed in the VE Forum when inklings of this schism were first heard. This thread discusses the Twenty and the possible reasons for their departure, drawing from Expanded Universe material, whilst this thread speculates on why the number twenty.
Discussion of the AOTC dvd continues here, especially now that we know of the confirmed deleted scenes. They are as follows :
Padmé Addresses the Senate.
Jedi Temple Analysis Room.
Obi-Wan & Mace Windu on the Temple Landing Platform.
Extended Arrival on Naboo.
Padmé's Parents' House.
Padmé's Bedroom.
Dooku Interrogates Padmé.
Anakin and Padmé on Trial.
It will be great to see the extensions involving Padmé's family home, since the novel made it clear that this helped explain the young Senator's romantic impulses. As with the dvd for The Phantom Menace, I wonder what, if any, scenes might be included in the feature film itself ... ?

Recently, Starwars.com announced that Episode II : Attack of the Clones will be released on the IMAX format in the USA and Canada from November the first ! Notwithstanding the necessary loss of about 20 minutes to accomodate the current IMAX projection requirements, viewing the film on such a vast scale will surely be a must-see ! Let's hope it will soon be released internationally ....

Also providing a link to the promotional trailer, it appears that we will be seeing cut scenes such as Padmé Amidala Naberrie's family and Madam Jocasta Nu's revealing discussion of the Jedi Order's 'Lost Twenty' that included Qui-Gon's Master, Count Dooku.

If that means downing a transport carrying Jedi padawans, then so be it. After all, hasn't Master Jedi Mace Windu treacherously expressed doubts over the Chancellor and the Republic ? The Jedi Order has been outlawed by command of the Senate, and a bounty is upon their heads.
A bounty, did you say ? What better organisation to collect such a bounty than Jabba the Hutt's criminal underworld ? Click on the image to reveal more !

New fan artwork !
1st September 2002
As september 2002 rolls around we know that George, Jonathan, Rick, Doug, and Robin will already be in the thick of Episode III pre-production logistics and conceptual work.
This in itself is quite an exciting thought : in Skywalker Ranch there is a small team of people who are right now refining the storyline, selecting suitable locations, considering new actors, and trying to put on paper the final act of George's vision.
Soon, no doubt, the fans will start to hear inklings of this developing work, and the long road to May 2005 will begin.
In the meantime, however, the Virtual Edition can offer a fan driven glimpse at what might come to pass ! Based on ideas drawn together from the VE discussion forum, a plotline has been sketched out, and is currently being illustrated.
Artwork for this plotline is more than welcome ! Email them to me via the link below or post them in the forum here. Forumer Jedi Jackson has recently created the following pictures ...
