Red 'Sith Stormtrooper' for Episode IX
30th July 2019 |
In July the Official Site announced a red-coloured 'Sith Stormtrooper' would be involved in Episode IX The Rise of Skywalker, and revealed images. Said to be an evolutionary amalgamation of trooper designs gone before, there are apparently 'easter egg' design motifs within the new look for us to spot. Unveiled at the San Diego Comic Con, an accompanying video showed the making of the new trooper suit and summarised the evolution.

At the start of July, actress Daisy Ridley confirmed that there will be clarification on Reys backstory and her parentage. She also verified that there is a greater sense of friendship and mutual adventure, with Rey, Finn, and Poe together on their mission.

Fansite MSW revealed some very vague and poor quality images purporting to be concept art for TROS, followed by an update on pick-up shooting at Black Park in England. The art is not at all clear, save for one image which sort of reminds me of the famous entrance at Petra in Jordan. We know the cast visited Petra as tourists, but we don't know if they actually filmed any of the production there. For all we know, Petra was indeed considered as a location - Wadi Rum was indeed chosen - and artwork created for it, but ultimately it was never used.

The producer-writer of The Mandalorian, Jon Favreau, recently confirmed that his show has been completed, but that he is already writing for Season Two, and that the production techniques already used (what I believe to be ILM's virtual reality storyboarding) means that certain elements for the second series are already in use preparing for their return to this corner of the Star Wars galaxy. Disney/LFL are clearly very happy with this first live-TV show, and have green-lit for a second series, as well as the Cassian Andor show, and an untitled third show.

At the end of July at the San Diego Comic Con, LFL revealed concept art and additional details for the second installment to their new VR show, Vader Immortal. With 'Episode I' finding you the hero captured by Vader on Mustafar, the Dark Lord now employs you to help seek an ancient artifact. This time, with no lightsabre at your disposal, you have only the power of the Force itself to protect you. Presenting the Force in a tangible and meaningful way within VR was the primary challenge for ILMxLAB. The character of the 'Black Bishop' returns from the first game, and more areas of the castle on Mustafar are available to be exlored ; additionally, emotionally and psychologically, we have further insight into Vader's pain and grief following the loss of his wife Padme.

At the end of July, Disney announced that the California-based Star Wars themed park 'Galaxy's Edge' processed it's "millionth" pilot within the first fifty days for the five minute Millennium Falcon ride.

In the illustrated virtual edition of Episode VII : Plague of Doom Han and Leia have stolen the ponchos and rebreather helemts from the fallen sentries, and amde their way to a mine-head entrance hatch. When Han suggests that he could try hotwiring the sealed door to force it open, his wife wryly remarks that his electrical skills should be left to the Falcon.

Leia suggests she call upon the Force instead, and in moments is able to open the hatch, revealing the mining slave crews beyond, engulfed in a purple mist. |

You can see the VE artwork in the 'Kessel' art gallery as well as in the online illustrated story, and you can discuss this in the forum here ! |
