The Prophecy
And in time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as : THE SON OF THE SUN.
And he shall bring Balance to the Force.

Reports & rumours abound for LFL's plans
30th June 2018
Hot on the heels of a less than spectacular response to SOLO, industry rumours have been circulating that LFL is pausing production on any new stand-alone movies, and solely promoting the current and officially confirmed productions. So JJ Abrams' Episode IX continues (with filming due to start soon at Pinewood), as does pre-production on Dave Filoni's animated 'Resistance' TV show, and Rian Johnson's trilogy, as well as the Game of Thrones creators' (Benioff & Weiss) trilogy, and Jon Favreau's live-action TV series. There had been recent talk of progress on a Boba Fett movie and an Obi-Wan Kenobi movie, but now we're hearing that UK director Stephen Daldry had left the OB1 project even before SOLO was released.

Fan site SWNN, as well as many more, reported on the rumours here and here and here ; while fan site MSW even implies there was another movie in production based on the Mos Eisley spaceport that has been definately cancelled that no-one outside of LFL (and Pinewood) actually knew about !

A possibly suspect and overly-convenient interview between film-makers James Cameron and George Lucas revealed that George's ideas for his Sequel Trilogy would have allowed for a further exploration of the concepts of the Force, the midichlorians, and the Whills, thus arcing from the Prequels through to the latest episodes. Fan site SWNN states that in the interview "the [Sequels] were going to get into a microbiotic world... a world of creatures that operate differently than we do ; I call them the Whills. And the Whills are the ones who actually control the universe. They feed off the Force..... We are the vessels of the Whills, and our connection is via the midichlorians, the midichlorians are the ones who communicate with the Whills. The Whills, in a general sense, are the Force.... I worked this whole concept with the Force, the Jedi, and everything from beginning to end. I just never had the chance to finish it and tell people about it".

Seemingly outlandish and fantastical this may have been - and notwithstanding his representation of the 'Family' and the 'Sisters' in the Clone Wars and the Rebels series (which personally I haven't completely watched) - this was at least George's vision, and he was always an original story-teller, and I can't help but feel it was such a shame that Disney or Kennedy's LFL or Abrams or Johnson didn't take the opportunity to use at least some of these ideas and hint at what George might have ultimately wanted ; even as a humble "thank you" for handing over the franchise.

On the back of the SOLO movie, I've taken the opportunity to update my VE Galaxy Map. Now, there were very little clues in the film's dialogue to 'place' any of the new worlds visited or referenced, but Corellia is regarded as an industrial Core world, while Mimban is under active conquest by the Imperials so would presumably be further out into the Rim Territories ; Vandor holds an Imperial-secure vault of refined coaxiom hyperfuel ; Kessel now has some sort of nebulae about it, which is apparently what inspires the Kessel Run short-cut.... though really we ought to have seen some way-point in the movie that allowed the characters - and us the audience - to explicitly state that it's the endpoint from Kessel and thus creating the widely-known "Kessel Run" ; likewise, primitive Savareen is likely to be in the Rim Terrirories too, even though it's value is as an unlicenced black market processor of unrefined coaxiom (and its narrative link to Kessel made me want to keep the two as neighbours). Two other worlds that were solely referenced, Carida and Glee Anselm, were added arbitarily, though the former's authority as the home of the Imperial Naval Academy implies a Core or Interior map location.

I was able to continue with some more artwork for the virtual edition Episode VII Plague of Doom, with King Oxus, now held prisoner by the Imperials on Kessel, under the complete influence of Dr Bloodory's aura spice.
Doctor Bloodory activates his controls, and King Oxus obligingly sits up on the medical bed.....
King Oxus then stands and announces his name and position as ruler of Ondos.

You can see the VE artwork in the 'Kessel' art gallery as well as in the online illustrated story, and you can discuss this in the forum here !
