A Virtual Edition scene for The Last Jedi !
29th October 2017
Following on from my virtual edition artwork for The Last Jedi last month, LFL released the primary trailer for Episode VIII.... which in fact reveals Rey facing off against Snoke in his red-hued throneroom ! At the moment, we don't know if Luke will be present too, but one can only hope !! Presumably, narratively speaking, we can't really have the most powerful Jedi Master in the presence of the primary villain just yet..... or can we ??!

We see a homage to Anakin marching upon the Jedi Temple with his grandson leading troopers into the old Rebel base on Crait ; Rey approaching what has been dubbed by the fansites as "the Force Tree", in which reside the books of old lore ; we see her sword fighting skill rapidly progress, as well as her attunement with the Force, which Luke seems to be scared of - the old Jedi Master even comments on seeing a similar raw strength previously - Ben Solo presumably - and "not being scared enough of it then" ; the flashback vision from TFA returns, this time showing Luke breaking out from underneath the wreckage ; Kylo Ren is revealed in his TIE Silencer during the attack over D'Qar, and the edit implies he's targetting the crusier that carries his mother ; another homage in color and framing, this time to ROTJ as the Falcon races through the red and black hued tunnels of Crait ; we see a (cute) porg up front in the Falcon's cockpit and squealing ! ; Poe's turbo-charged X-Wing is briefly seen accelerating towards the First Order war cruiser ; Finn and Phasma duel, and Finn has been disguised as a First Order officer, though at some point he is captured ; Snoke is revealed in physical form, and exerting the Force against Rey in his red throneroom ; and finally a deliberately mis-leadingly cut scene showing Rey apparently asking Kylo Ren for help..... though on closer inspection it appears with two different dark-toned backgrounds.

An exciting trailer, but careful not to give too much away, while at the same time apparently purposefully mis-leading the audience !

And at the end of the month, the 'international' - japanese - trailer was released, though, save for a few new shots of Rey, Threepio, and BB8, there was not much new to add to what had already been seen.

Later in October, director Rian Johnson released a second Behind-the-Scenes video, where he discusses his reaction to and approach to working on the next Star Wars instalment.

Within the video, I spotted that Threepio joins Artoo on the Falcon at some point ! Also, when Finn and Rose Tico are in disguise and making their way through a First Order base, it might be that Benicio del Toro's character 'DJ' walks with them. We see a brief glimpse of a fathier 'race horse' in its stable ; and Poe sliding into the Crait trench / ravine with a sky speeder crashing to the ground just above him.

This BTS video is entitled "Directing the Last Jedi" so one wonders if there may well be some other similarly themed videos focusing on other aspects of production, akin to the web documentaries that were created alongside the Prequels.

Recent interviews with director JJ Abrams and co-writer Chris Terrio implied that the intention for the final sequel film is to not only unite all three trilogies together, but also to boldly push the plot into new and unexpected directions. Time can only tell, but this does indeed sound very promising, and all-inclusive if the Prequels are to be referenced again in some way.

In YHS news, director Ron Howard not only confirmed a wrap on production in mid october, but also verified that the movie will be called 'Solo' !

Returning to the virtual edition of Episode VII : Plague of Doom, an Imperial spy informs Commander Kane that the Alliance heroes are in the Hutt capital Ophuchi.
The Imperial Commander orders the spy to route stormtroopers to intercept the enemy...
