The Prophecy
And in time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as : THE SON OF THE SUN.

VE Episode IX 'Duel of the Fates' is finished !
31st October 2018
On October the 10th, I was able to finally complete the story for my virtual edition Episode IX Duel of the Fates ! It's been a very long journey, challenged when my co-writer Scott left the project shortly after LFL was sold to Disney and the official Sequel Trilogy was announced. But then earlier this year, a VE fan called Dave, who had enjoyed the other two installments of the virtual sequel trilogy, was good enough to enqire after the project, and even gave me valuable and positive feedback after reading the draft.
The final version is, admittedly, overly long.... but I believe it's a fitting tribute to not only the VE project that began back in 2005, but also to the world created by George Lucas, as well as to the germs of ideas that he had created and had inspired. It's been a fun project, certainly challenging, but also insightful as I 'discover' the subtleties of plotting and characterisation. What follows is a brief summary of the 'state of the galaxy' and an outline introducing the opening of the episode.....

Following the Battle of Kamino, where General Lando Calrissian sacrificed his life to destroy the secret genesis-factory creating the Bogan, the Dark Side creatures have swept across much of the Galaxy, subjugating it under a cloud of despair and fear. Orchestrated by the Sith Master Darth Monstross and controlled by the twelve fallen Jedi who were once padawans of the traitor Lettow, the bogan can only be killed by flame or by several groups of Jedi Knights acting in 'inconcerto', a dark trait pioneered by Master Alana Seren, where one Jedi lead marshalls the others. In conjunction with the bogan, the Imperial Remnant has successfully re-taken the Rim and Disc territories through the use of hyper-drones, centrally controlled devices stationed at egress points along hyper-lanes that can disable all non-Imperial traffic. As millions of refugees retreat towards the Core Interior, the Galactic Alliance desperately seeks additional vessels to valiantly retaliate.
To this end, General Han Solo and his wife Leia Solo lead a delegation to the powerful Baron Rabahht of Corellia seeking a deal to secure more ships. Meanwhile, Leia's brother Master Jedi Luke Skywalker and a team of Jedi Rangers journey across several Core worlds advising on defending against the bogan. At the same time, Chewbacca and a small team of Wookiees, now trained in the ways of the Force, begin a mission to infiltrate the drone factory and command centre situated on the Imperial-held world of Kashyyyk.

At the beginning of October, the official site revealed that the new live-action TV show scheduled for 2019 and helmed by actor/producer Jon Favreau would be entitled 'The Mandalorian', and follows a "lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy", set a few years after Return of the Jedi. Already in production at studios and locations in California, leaked photos imply a Tatooine environment... but the setting could in fact be anywhere. Furthermore, fansite MSW has been able to synchronise directors to episodes :

  • 1 - Dave Filoni
  • 2 - Rick Famuyiwa
  • 3 - Deborah Chow
  • 4 - Bryce Dallas Howard
  • 5 - Dave Filoni
  • 6 - Rick Famuyiwa
  • 7 - Deborah Chow
  • 8 - Taika Waititi

Even Gerorge Lucas has visited Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni on the set of The Mandalorian.

Presumably without the iconic Jedi, Sith, and lightsabre, one wonders how well this new show will feel like a Star Wars product - and not just any old sci-fi fare - and how well it will be embraced by fan and audience alike. Obviously, the masked Boba Fett -like gunslinger in dusty weathered settings will be popular, but it will need an engaging story arc to carry the character and the viewer - one surely can't expect 8 episodes of Clint Eastwood shooting at the bad guys ?!!

On October the 7th, Lucasfilm unveiled its new cartoon series, 'Resistance', which follows, in a slight manga-anime style of artwork, a group of starfighter pilots proving their worth against the First Order.

The virtual edition Episode VII : Plague of Doom continues, with Han landing the Millennium Falcon in a hidden canyon on Kessel previously exploited by smugglers.
Han points out to Luke and Leia the easiest way into the mine complex, from where they hope to uncover the mystery of the aura spice and rescue their friends, Chwbacca and Lando.
